Kathy and Mike Dano are 7Everyday Heroes!
7NEWS Denver honored them through its heroes award this week: The ABC affiliate recognizes volunteers in our community and selected the Danos for all they do to support Family Promise.
For more than five years, the couple has coordinated shelter weeks at their congregation, Lakewood United Methodist Church. They recruit volunteers, organize dinners, provide childcare and facilitate other support for families in our program.
“There isn’t anything that they will not step up and do. They are a true blessing to our church and our community because of their belief in serving the world,” says Pastor Betty Bradford at Lakewood UMC.
Kathy and Mike have also recruited support congregations to help Family Promise. And they do so much beyond our mission.
“Mike is the coordinator of our missions team. He helps organize all our outreach programs including Lunches in the Park. The second Saturday of each month, our church is responsible for making and serving 100 sack lunches to the homeless in Civic Center Park,” Pastor Betty said. “Kathy is on our education committee for our children, and she and Mike also teach Sunday school. She helps organize all things for the children, including Vacation Bible School, curriculum, and outreach programs for our children to teach them the value of helping others.”
Kathy and Mike were also featured on the 7NEWS website: Congratulations and a Big Thank You to them for their open hearts and countless hours of service!
