“I am extremely grateful and feel blessed. I am in my dream job! I am more than humbled by the experience and grateful for every single person and organization that had helped me along the way.” – Emily, past family at Family Promise of Greater Denver
Emily and her 7 year old son Kourtlan entered our program on May 17, 2017. She was 5 months pregnant with her second boy. At that time, Emily was working full-time but had family that were no longer willing or able to allow her to stay with them. Emily dreamed of giving back to her community by working with at-risk youth or individuals experiencing homelessness. In fact, in her first week she submitted an application to Urban Peak (a drop-in/shelter program for youth experiencing homelessness). She explained that her ultimate goal was to open her own “drop-in center” for people in need; and her goal was to do it in the next three years!
Emily worked hard, stayed positive, and successfully secured a 2 year housing voucher from Family Tree. This allowed her to find a wonderful, affordable 2 bedroom town home in Aurora. She left our Emergency Shelter program on July 17, 2017. However, even though Emily and Kourtlan left our shelter program, they did not leave Family Promise. They continue to be supported by our HOME program. HOME is an opportunity for families to remain connected to Family Promise by working with an advocate to set life goals and work towards meeting them.
We were lucky enough to celebrate the birth of Loyal Josiah with this family in September. And then in December we celebrated again when Emily got her “dream job”- Operations Coordinator for the Denver Rescue Missions Smith Road shelter program.
Emily, Kourtlan, & Loyal are just one example of the dedicated, hard-working families that come through the doors of Family Promise.
